Hi, I'm Shoe Slug!

I make tunes from the comfort of my bedroom, surrounded by art, an ever-expanding trinket collection, and a glorious mess of instruments I’ve accumulated over the years. This includes (but is not limited to): a ukulele, omnichord, melodica, seven harmonicas, and a didgeridoo.

I’ve been sporadically releasing music since 2009, starting with goofy YouTube videos with friends and poorly mixed SoundCloud uploads. This eventually led to years of local gigs, performing mainly acoustic ukulele sets of original music and covers. After feeling frustrated with the limitation of my circumstances, I decided it was time to officially start recording and releasing music - without the pressure of fitting into any particular mold.

My sound shifts depending on whatever I’m obsessing over that week. Expect a little bit of everything: dreamy bedroom pop, ukulele folk-jazz, haunting ballads, and plenty of vocal experimentation in between (including the occasional rap verse).

I am heavily inspired by a wide range of music, particularly the more experimental bands like Happy Mondays, Gorillaz, Talking Heads, and Animal Collective - creatives who aren’t afraid to get a little strange, bend genres, and do whatever they want with their sound.

Whether it’s a polished track, a collaboration with someone I love, or a scrappy little side project, my goal is to share my little world and hope it resonates with a fellow slug during this confusing timeline.
